The qualities of profitable tipsters are based on certain skills and knowledge. Just like in any job there are practices that makes a difference between professional and amateur tipsters. These practices are our opinions that every tipster should follow, to become a real pro:
1. Have your own staking system and use it reasonably
Each tipster may use different methods, but it’s always good to stick to the classic ones. For example you should have a 1-10 units stake, where 1 unit is staked on the tip with the least chance of winning and 10 units is for the top tip. Placing 10 units on a tip with a odd of 4.0 and 1 unit on a tip with a odd of 1.25 doesn’t make any sense, so it’s good having a balance of units staked on each odd.
2. Start with a fixed bankroll and use a staking system for the bets placed
One of the main problems for bettors is that they start with a non fixed balance and they lose track of it. Let’s say you have 972 EUR in your card that you want to start playing on your favourite bookmark. Instead od depositing 900 EUR or wait until you have an exact amount of 1000 EUR, you decide to place them all and start betting. Let’s say that you lose all money and then add another 342 EUR. You’ll never have an exact value where you started from and where you got. It’s also even more difficult to place bets using the stakes model. Imagine you place 10% of your bankroll on the tip you think will win most. If you place a 6 units bet (which means 6% of your bankroll) out of 972 EUR, means 58.32 EUR. Not very fancy, right? Try to keep everything as fixed as possible.
3. Do not publish the tips ”too early”
If you think that you got the golden ticket if you placed the first tip on a game, you’re most likely wrong. Often early odds are worst than the odds that will show up after a couple of hours. Bookmakers are testing the market and most of the times won’t publish the true odds, at least at first. Wait a little longer, see how the market reacts and act accordingly.
4. Don’t chase your losses
OK! You’ve got a bad streak. You lost 5, 7, 10 games in a row! You’re lost and you stop thinking clearly. You want to recover the losses faster and you start betting on every game you see in leagues that you probably never heard of. But you’re not winning any game and your account starts sinking faster than ever. STOP RIGHT THERE! You’re not alone, all tipsters have gone through bad times. If somebody tells you otherwise, he’s lying. What makes the difference between a profitable tipster and a losing one is that the profitable tipster knows when to say stop! Is the same as alcohol! If you don’t say stop, you’ll get drunk! In betting, if you don’t say stop you’ll get f***ed, or bankrupt (which is pretty much the same). A profitable tipster will say ”Hey! I’ve got a bad week or month, let’s just take some time off and stop betting for now. I’ll just do something else and return when I’m ready.” You’re not quitting, you’re just letting bad luck go away. Patience is a virtue!
5. Don’t bet with your heart
I know that’s what everybody keeps saying, but imagine you’re a Liverpool fan and you’re playing at home against United. Let’s say at Bet365 odds are 2.00 for your team, 3.20 for a draw and 3.40 for United. Will you bet on your team or not? I’m sure you will and that’s why most tipsters lose money. Because if you would look at the statistics, most outcome for this game will be a draw. You think your team will win, but it’s not what you think, it’s what you want, that’s a huge difference!
I know it’s hard not to bet on your team, but try not to, especially not when you want them so bad to win a game!
